2024 Reflection and Holiday Message - Supporting Student Journeys
2024 was a vibrant year of changes for ICC. In this article our Managing Director, Val Rosettani, shares an update and what to look forward to in 2025.
s we close out another year together, I find myself reflecting on some of the unprecedented challenges we’ve experienced individually, collectively, and globally. In the last few years, the world feels increasingly complex, and the need for resilience, clarity, and connection in ways we might not have imagined before.
This leads me to a key question: “How is our training actively supporting people in this journey, and how can we ensure ICC continues to evolve, thrive and provide lasting value in a rapidly changing world?”
Let’s start by exploring how our coach training is helping people navigate the challenges of today.
Developing Resilience
From my vantage point, resilience isn’t just about bouncing back; it’s about adapting, growing, and thriving in the face of adversity. At ICC, we emphasize the development of deep listening and reflective practices - skills that enable coaches to stay present, even in the most turbulent circumstances. Through Integral Coaching® practices, our coaches learn to foster calm and clarity when faced with uncertainty. Coaches gain insight into their habitual patterns thus enabling more thoughtful, intentional responses rather than automatic reactivity. Coaches reconnect with their values and purpose, creating a steady foundation upon which to stand, even as external conditions shift. I’ve seen this resilience firsthand in our students and graduates. One student recently shared: “Personally, I’ve gained the ability to be more present, listen actively and demonstrate congruence in wanting to live in the moment by learning to BE in the moment. Being more accepting of the person that I am, with the differences and complexities that I hone, I am more at peace with *what* was in the past challenging.”
Strengthening Relationships
In a time when relationships can feel strained or fragmented, the ability to connect and to truly listen is a profound gift. ICC’s training goes beyond teaching techniques to cultivate the capacity for deep listening - listening not just to words, but to the whole person. I’ve seen the creation of stronger, more authentic relationships built on understanding and trust. I’ve repeatedly experienced coaches creating safe spaces where clients feel seen, heard, and supported. I’ve witnessed coaches engage in respectful dialogue even in the face of conflict or difference. Another student recently shared: “I gained skills that were especially useful in my management and leadership challenges – being able to draw on honed skills in active listening as the work of the past year involved a great deal of conflict resolution and group dynamics.” It’s stories like these that highlight how our work extends beyond the individual to impact on those around us.
Navigating Complexity with an Integral Lens
Navigating the complexities we face in these times requires an expanded perspective and Integral Coaching® provides just that. By training coaches to see through multiple lenses, our coaching approach enables a deeper understanding of challenges that consider the individual as well as systemic factors, empathy for diverse perspectives, and finding solutions that honour the whole person. This really hit home for me when a recent student shared this with ICC: “The depth and width and the different lens presented support the coaching program in a very particular way. The AQAL lens has helped me see individual lives in and through many dimensions and perspectives. In so doing, I now see the multidimensional landscape of a client. Finally, working with a set of lenses has brought rigor. It has helped minimise drawing conclusions about a client and their coaching topic based on my perception, past experiences, unconscious personal preferences and projections.”
Building Hope and Agency
Perhaps the greatest gift of Integral Coaching® is its ability to instill hope and agency in times of change. ICC’s coach training does this by supporting clients in identifying and honouring their unique strengths and through the co-creation of actionable pathways forward that build new skills and capacities. I was deeply moved by hearing this recently from one of our students: “Professionally, I can see the impact of this approach and how it has helped clients realize their full potential. I have noticed the opportunity by being at their side to ignite and integrate: vision (seeing new possibilities), passion (pursuing “what matters”) and performance (making a difference). It is quite impressive to witness the lasting change in the clients that I have accompanied.”
The words shared by ICC students serve as a powerful reminder of why we do this work - to help people find their footing and their path, even in the most uncertain times.
The need for skilled, compassionate, and insightful coaches will only continue to grow. With this in mind, let’s transition from reflecting on the individual and collective growth fostered through our coaching programs, to the equally important question of how does ICC, as an organization, continue to evolve, thrive and provide lasting value in a rapidly changing world?
A year of Growth and Innovation
2024 was a year of evolution and expansion for Integral Coaching Canada.
A labour of love was the launch of our new website, making our resources more accessible and enhancing our online presence. From improved navigation to a modern, accessible design better suited to the many different devices people use, the new website was designed to better service our community and provides a space where prospective students, graduates, and the broader coaching community can connect with our work more easily.
One of the highlights of this year has been the expansion of our team. Welcoming Jill Chitra and Miriam Binder-Lang to the ICC team has brought us fresh perspectives and renewed energy. Both Jill and Miriam are experienced ICC Teachers, Phone Coaches, and Observers, incredibly skillful and immersed in the Integral Coaching® Method. Their talents and perspectives have already started to enrich our offerings and our community.
Strengthening our legacy was a key priority this past year. We devoted a lot of care toward building upon our foundation: the Integral Coaching® Certification Program (ICCP) developed by Laura Divine and Joanne Hunt more than 20 years ago. 2024 included maintaining organizational approval as an ICF level 2 accredited program, the inclusion of the most current research on adult developmental stages into our courses, enhancing our approach to coaching conversation to better meet emerging client needs, as well as the launch of a practice design workshop.
These accomplishments reflect our commitment to adapt and innovate as the world around us continues to change, and to ensure that our method and approach remain at the forefront of the coaching field.
Looking Ahead
As I pause to think about the holiday season ahead - moments of rest, reflection, and connection with loved ones - I can’t help but also feel a sense of anticipation for what’s to come. 2025 promises to be a year of exciting growth and innovation at ICC, and I’m thrilled to share a glimpse of what’s on the horizon.
We are introducing Graduate Development Courses - new offerings designed specifically for our graduate community. These courses will focus on advanced coaching skills, equipping our coaches to navigate even more complex client challenges with confidence and creativity. For me, these new opportunities feel like an extension of the relationships we’ve built over the years, a way to continue growing together.
In addition, we remain deeply committed to keeping our flagship training programs at the leading edge of the coaching profession. We will continue to refine and expand our coaching method and approach to ensure that Integral Coaches™ are prepared to meet the ever-changing needs of clients and the demands of our world with insight, compassion, and expertise.
This isn’t just about programs or courses - it’s about staying true to who we are as a community. ICC has always been a place where innovation meets heart, where we don’t just respond to change but actively shape a brighter future. As we head into 2025, I feel incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished and deeply hopeful about where we’re headed.
I am in awe of our ICC team and faculty, our graduates, students and broader community; thank you for the work you do in the world. Your commitment to growth, connection and transformation is a bright light in uncertain times.
Here’s to a new year filled with learning, resilience, and impact. Together, we can navigate whatever lies ahead with grace, integrity, and hope.
Holiday Hugs,
Val (& the ICC Team)
